Being an Industrial Engineer at Ideal Heating

We believe in investing in our people and in continuous personal development. Ideal has held ‘Investors in People’ status for over 20 years as a benchmark to ensure that our processes are effective in enabling people to perform at their very best.

As part of our Careers in Engineering blog series, we will be introducing you to members of our Ideal Boilers family and discussing the skills and knowledge they bring to our company. Read about how they built their career here at Ideal and the training opportunities we offer, which helped them develop in their role.

We caught up with Kris Spivey, who has worked at Ideal Boilers for over 22 years, to find out what it’s like to be an Industrial Engineer at Ideal Boilers.

I completed a Technical Apprenticeship here at Ideal Boilers in 1997; this enabled on the job training to take place at the same time as attaining formal qualifications. I am now an Industrial Engineer responsible for the development of the site, production processes as well as supporting other departments across the group. One of the great aspects of my role is that no two days are the same. Some of the tasks I could be completing include pre-work contractor briefs, checking Health & Safety documentation and issuing permits, developing specifications for projects (this could be anything from an office refit to a new production cell), attending meetings with internal to discuss new projects / reviewing existing projects and complete contractor audits, making sure the work is done in a safe manner and to a high standard. Key skills needed for my role are a drive to make things better, good communication skills, dedication and tenacity.’
