Changes to the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF)

Logic Combi boiler

A recent announcement from the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) means a significant change to the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund for our installers.

From 00:01am on 5th August 2014 the flue gas heat recovery unit will be removed from the list of energy improvement measures available under the GDHIF.

The flue has heat recovery unit, built into the Ideal Logic Code Combi ES Boiler, recovers any waste heat before it goes through the flue and is lost with the recovered heat being recycled back through the boiler.

This technology helps to reduce carbon emissions and provides considerable fuel savings, reducing your homeowners energy bills.

The DECC have explained that on 9th June, when the scheme was launched, the measures would be reviewed when £50 million of the available £120 million budget was assigned to cash back vouchers. This milestone was hit within 6 weeks of launch on 22nd July 2014.

  • The government has just increased the funding for the GDHIF by £100m; whether this will improve the efficacy of the scheme is an open question. It’s a shame that this initiative does not seem to be having the impact industry and consumers would hope for; while 750,000 household renovations might seem like a lot, it’s a drop in the ocean.
